You're ready to buy your first motorcycle, the main thing is to find one you can trust. It should be an exciting, satisfying motorcycle that understands very clearly you're the boss.
The bike should have enough power to stay with the traffic, but not so much that it wants to run away and leave you behind. Kawasaki selected 18 horsepower as the right amount for the KZ200.

The motorcycle should be very easy to steer. Since narrow bikes feel more controllable, Kawasaki designed the KZ200 around a narrow single-cylinder engine. They built the bike light (278 lbs), and they gave it quick steering. Easy riding.
Your first bike should be economical and uncomplaining. The KZ200 engine, with its overhead-cam design, passes lots of filling stations between refills. At the same time, the engine has fewer moving-parts; the motorcycle is rugged. You won't ride around holding your breath waiting for it to break.
Most important, the KZ200 is fun. It responds so deftly and elegantly. KZ200— the first-time bike that old riders will envy when you're darting around town.

The production began in 1976, starting with conventional points type ignition system. This configuration lasted until the latest production batch in 1982.

By 1983, the motorcycle adopted the Capacitor Discharge Ignition (CDI) system until the production stopped in 1984. The early production of this specification is called Merzy CDI, while the latter were launched with new model of fuel tank and referred as Merzy Cobra.[clarification needed]

It was once planned that Kawasaki Motorcycles would launch a new model with improved engine capacity of 250 cc. However, due to the Indonesia's governmental regulation at that time, the plan was turned down. The regulation limited the engine capacity of maximum 200 cc for public motorcycles during the period.
